WestSound FC Men join EPLWA, open doors for players on the peninsula

SILVERDALE, WA— (August 14, 2013) The Evergreen Premier League (EPLWA), a new men’s elite soccer league that will kick off in May 2014, is pleased to announce today that the WestSound FC Men are our fifth accepted club.

In 2013 coaches from WestSound FC put together an adult men’s team that played a series of matches. Wanting to keep their playing boots on and seeing that the peninsula offered few chances for college-age elite players, the coaches put on the red and black, found local lads, and a new team was born.

Kevin Skinner, one of those coaches, put his passion for the game behind efforts to make the team a permanent reality. “This league is exactly the movement we were hoping for to provide talented players a platform within a community to play and continue to enjoy the game at a competitive level,” he says.

WestSound FC Director of Coaching (DOC) George Vukic understands the new doors that are opening to players in West Sound. “We envision a lot of excitement and momentum resulting from this,” Vukic says.

300wsfc“Our strong youth environment creates a large, talented player pool, many of whom are at a loss as to where to play after graduating from high school. A large percentage of graduating players choose to remain in Kitsap. Olympic College players, as well as those returning from other schools, will also create an ongoing pool from which we can draw each year.”

The new team will announce a playing venue in the coming months. Right now the club uses Silverdale Stadium. Bremerton Memorial Stadium is also a possibility.

WestSound FC has a long and proud history in Kitsap County and the Olympic Peninsula. Formerly called FC Kitsap Premier SC, the club goes back more than 30 years.

“The Evergreen Premier League sees the importance of having semi-pro soccer in West Sound,” says League Coordinator David Falk. “WestSound FC Men will allow local players to compete at a statewide level while also keeping their amateur college status. We believe this is a great addition to the league and a perfect partner for growing both of our programs.” See also: Kitsap Adult Soccer League (KASL) on Facebook.
