YAKIMA, WA — The South Sound Football Club Shock took their second straight away win to start their EPLWA campaign as they edged Yakima United FC 2-1 on Sunday May 4 at Marquette Stadium.
Luke Sandbloom had the visitors up 1-0 after he scored in the 8th minute. It’s been a trend in the early season: early goals. So far the club scoring those early strikes has eventually gone on to lose, but not this time.
Yakima United did draw level before halftime. Junior Garcia’s goal in 36th minute knotted the match at 1-1.
As halftime neared two Shock players were shown yellow cards. Overall the caution count was 3-1.
The winning South Sound goal was scored by crafty midfielder Daniel Gray in the 68th minute.
“It was a pretty even game,” Yakima general manager Josh Vega told the Yakima Herald-Republic. “Things just kinda didn’t go our way.”
South Sound now gets to host their home opener this coming Saturday night May 10th at 7 PM at Harry Lang Stadium against Wenatchee United. The Shock are 2-0-0.
Yakima United travels to Spokane to play the Shadow on the 10th at Spokane Falls CC. The Hoppers fall to 1-1-0 on the young season.
