Stars shine in 4-1 win over WestSound, title race matches next for Seattle

TUKWILA, WA— Seattle Stars FC are finishing their debut season in the EPLWA with a flourish. This means the club out of Tukwila could be ready to make a difference in the title race.

On Sunday night at Starfire Sports Stadium the Stars beat WestSound FC 4-1 to win their second straight match. During that stretch Seattle has outscored its foes 9-2. Up next for the Stars are matches that will help decide the Evergreen Premier League race. Thursday July 10 Seattle is at South Sound. Saturday the 12th they visit Bellingham. On Saturday July 19 the Stars complete their season with a match at Spokane.

Four different players came through with goals for the Stars against WestSound.

In the 21st minute Rob Lansche (read feature on Rob here) scored a free kick goal from just outside the 18 yard box from the right side. It was Lansche’s fourth goal of the season, which leads the club. The marker stood up well past half time.

It was still 1-0 Stars in the 59th when a penalty kick was converted by WestSound’s Graham Davidson to level the score 1-1. It was Davidson’s third goal of the year.

Seattle responded in the late stages with a flurry of goals to put the match away.

Rafael Marquez was subbed in at the 60 minute mark and the fresh legs were key as he dribbled into the penalty box from the left and put home a strike to put Seattle back on top 2-1 in the 62nd.

In the 69th minute Wyatt Hill was presented with a chance when a WestSound goal kick went directly to him. He made the visitors pay by putting it away for a 3-1 Seattle advantage.

The scoring was complete in the 77th. Another pair of fresh legs did the trick. Geoffery Muhoho was inserted in the 74th minute for the Stars and three minutes later he scored off of an assist from the right wing from Ron Lansche.

Seattle has struggled all year to move out of the bottom spot. Now the Stars find themselves with an opportunity to play tough and make life difficult for the clubs at the top.

WestSound FC has one match left in their inaugural season, a home contest this weekend against Wenatchee. The match is under consideration to be moved to Saturday July 12 to avoid the World Cup Final. Watch for an official announcement about the switch, if it occurs, on the league Facebook page early this week.
