Match Report: YakimaUnited.net

Last season WFC beat their Central Washington rivals twice, 3-1 in the Apple Capital and 4-0 in the Home of the Hops. Both clubs have shown in the early season that they are improved over 2014. Wenatchee’s big loss to Spokane now appears to be more of a fluke than a trend. They have bounced back with an away win at Olympic and now the home win over the Hoppers. Meanwhile Yakima United had favorable results with a big win in Bellingham and a draw at home against South Sound. The close loss on Sunday night is a disappointment but something YUFC will still seek to build from.

Jonathan Rodriguez got the winner in the 14th minute of play. He won the ball and then beat Yakima goalkeeper Antonio Gonzalez at the near post.

Both sides created chances over the remainder of the match, but none were successful. Mauricio Sanchez led the WFC defense in goal to earn the shutout.

WFC is now 3-0-0 all-time against the Hoppers. The clubs will meet again in Yakima on Sunday June 21 at 1 PM at Marquette Stadium.

Next up for Wenatchee is a trip to play in the South Sound FC home opener on Saturday May 23 at 7 PM at Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood. The Hoppers are back home on Sunday May 24 when they host winless Bellingham United at 1 PM at Marquette.
