Hoppers jump to third, Victory retake top spot in table

Sunday May 24 saw movement in the table as Yakima United FC jumped up to third place and Vancouver Victory FC retook the top spot as both sides scored four goals and won their matches. Updated standings and stats are live here.

Yakima United FC 4-0 Bellingham United

The Hoppers have won two matches this season and are now even at 2-2-1 after five played. Both wins have come against Bellingham United and both ended in 4-0 final scores. On Sunday May 24 at Marquette Stadium YUFC got a winner from Hector Valdovinos in the 33rd minute on an assist from Jesse Esquivel. (Hoppers match report)

Bellingham (0-5-0) hung around in the match until Esquivel started a scoring spree in the second half. He scored a hat trick with goals in the 68th, 79th and 86th minutes. The middle goal was a penalty kick conversion. Jacob Rhoads played in goal for Yakima. The Hoppers now have two shut outs on the season, best in the EPLWA. Esquivel moves to the top in goals scored with six.

V2FC improved to 5-0-0 with 15 points as they handled Wenatchee FC 4-1 at McKenzie Stadium on Sunday afternoon May 24. The Capitals fell to 2-4-0 on the season and are currently in 5th place.

The Victory split their goals between the halves, with the most-crucial strike coming just before halftime. V2FC took the lead in the 34th minute when Timur Zhividze notched his fifth goal of the season (second-best in the EPLWA.) The back-breaker came from Borce Atanasov in the 45th to make it 2-0.

In the second half it was Atanasov again, this time assisted by Tracey Hasson. It was 3-0 to V2FC and Wenatchee FC, who played the night before at South Sound, looked done for. In the 74th minute though Wenatchee got one back from Dylan Avey to make it 3-1.

Vancouver clinched things for good with a final goal from Alex Segovia in the 90th minute. Alex Nimo got the assist.
