BELLINGHAM, WA— The preparations for the 2016 Evergreen Premier League season are underway even as the league pauses to salute three people who have recently been honored by the Washington State Adult Soccer Association.
Eleazar Galvan (Wenatchee FC) – WSASA Male Player of the Year for 2015
KENMORE, WA— The Washington State Adult Soccer Association (WSASA) has named Wenatchee FC attacker Eleazar Galvan ( Chelan High School, Skagit CC, Western Washington University) as the Male Player of the Year in the state of Washington for 2015.
Galvan’s star continues to rise. The Chelan native led his high school to the WIAA state title before moving on to Skagit Community College. With the Cardinals Galvan scored 20 goals and tallied 20 assists over two seasons (2013, 2014) From there he jumped up to NCAA Division 2 with Western Washington University. In 949 minutes played with the Vikings in 2015 Galvan had 2 goals and 2 assists.
It was in the Evergreen Premier League that Galvan soared last year. He scored 11 goals to lead the league after scoring 7 for Wenatchee FC the previous season. In 2015 Galvan also scored at the national level as he played an important role as a guest player for South Sound FC in their U-23 USASA National Championship. He was named EPLWA Offensive Player of the Week twice in 2015, both times for scoring hat tricks.
WSASA will present the honorary award to Galvan at the WSASA Hall of Fame Dinner on April 23, 2016 at 6pm at the McMenamins Anderson School in Bothell, WA.
John Crouch (Founder, South Sound FC), Barney Kempton (Volunteer of the Year) Award
KENMORE, WA— John Crouch, founder of South Sound FC has been named the recipient of the Barney Kempton Award for volunteerism in Washington state soccer.
George “Barney” Kempton was the Secretary of the Washington State Association for decades. Kempton also served as Junior Commissioner and a soccer correspondent for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Kempton, who was born in Northern Ireland and came to America as a young man in 1910, played for teams in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver and Prince Rupert before retiring as a player in 1934. Kemtpon was inducted into the US Soccer Hall of Fame in 1950.
WSASA President Tim Busch says, “I nominated John Crouch for the 2015 Barney Kempton award as a result of his ceaseless efforts to grow elite adult soccer in Washington. His hard work paid off as SouthSound FC won the USASA U-23 championship in 2015. John is a visionary who has worked to develop the three premier adult leagues in our state: Evergreen Premier League – Washington, Western Indoor Soccer League and Northwest Premier Soccer League. There is no better ambassador for our game than John. He is very deserving of this honor.”
WSASA will present the honorary award to Crouch at the WSASA Hall of Fame Dinner on April 23, 2016 at 6pm at the McMenamins Anderson School in Bothell, WA.
Hector Valdovinos (Yakima United FC) Lifetime WSASA Player Card
KENMORE, WA— The Washington State Adult Soccer Association issues player cards to thousands and thousands of adult soccer players yearly. Occasionally they will honor a player by giving them a “Lifetime” Card, which puts them in exclusive company and also waives their yearly fee -forever! Earlier this year the WSASA bestowed this honor to Yakima United FC forward Hector Valdovinos. Hector is the all-time leading scorer for YUFC in EPLWA play. He joins South Sound FC goalkeeper Chris Kintz as another EPLWA player to be awarded “Lifetime” status.
