Tyler Bjork finished out the 2016 season with his Seattle Stars on Sunday by scoring two first-half goals in an eventual 4-3 loss at Bellingham United. Those two tallies lifted Bjork’s season total to 14, topping his previous league record of 13 set back in 2014.
It’s some sort of soccer poetry that Bjork would set his new record in the stadium where he scored most of the goals in his previous one. Tyler played for Bellingham United in 2014 and 2015, scoring 13 goals the first season and then 7 the next. His overall total of 34 goals in three seasons easily leads the league’s all-time totals for a single player.
This season Tyler scored 14 of Seattle’s 24 goals (58%). On Sunday he scored one that was listed as a solo effort and then a second with a Carlos Betancourt assist.
This could be argued beyond the numbers as Bjork’s best EPLWA campaign. Take away his 6-goal outburst in a single match back in 2013 and you have 7 goals remaining. This season Bjork spread out his scores for a club that clearly relied on them.
