The 2017 preseason is well underway as all 8 EPLWA clubs gear up for the April 30 kick off of the regular season. Last weekend there were three friendlies that produced 10 goals and made some history in the process.
On Saturday the Seattle Stars visited Northwest University in Kirkland to play the Eagles. The back and forth match ended in a 2-2 tie. The all-time leading scorer in EPLWA history was at it again for Seattle. Tyler Bjork scored both Stars goals – including a stunner from distance and a nifty left-foot tap-in. Also on Saturday April 1 the Oly Town Artesians took the outdoor pitch for the very first time in a preseason friendly with the Washington State University Men’s Club soccer team. The match also ended in a 2-2 tie as the Artesians fought back twice to get even. History was made when Jordan Zimmerman scored the first outdoor goal in Oly Town FC history at around 30 minutes of the first half. See the highlights below.
On Sunday April 2 the Washington State Men concluded their west side visit with a match against Washington Premier South Sound FC in Puyallup. The Shock were ready in their preseason debut and coasted to a 4-0 win with all goals coming in the first half. WPSSFC’s scorers were Austin Sweeney, Isidro Prado-Huerta, Danny Minniti and Micah Wenzel.
This weekend the action continues. On Saturday April 8 at Noon at McKenzie Stadium defending EPLWA Champions Vancouver Victory FC will host a jamboree of shortened matches with Corban and St. Martin’s Universities providing the challenge.
Bellingham United is at Phillips 66 Park SaturdayApril 8 against Harbor FC at 7 PM.
On Sunday April 9 WP South Sound FC will host brand new side Snohomish County Steelheads FC at 6 PM at Washington Premier Fields Complex.
