EPLWA clubs ramp up offense in 30-goal weekend

The sun came out in Washington and so did the goals as the May 20-21 weekend in the Evergreen Premier League produced offensive fireworks. 30 goals were scored over five matches played. After all the smoke had cleared, Seattle Stars were Top of the Table.

Vancouver Victory 8-2 Spokane Shadow 2

RIDGEFIELD, WA— The defending EPLWA Champion Victory (2-0-0) destroyed Spokane Shadow 2 (0-4-0) with a 7-goal second half explosion on Saturday May 20 at Ridgefield High School Stadium. V2FC dominated the first half as well, but could only sneak a final-minute goal past the Spokane defense. In the second half there were 9 goals scored combined.

YAKIMA, WA— Seattle Stars (3-1-1) and Yakima United (0-3-2) were level 2-2 at halftime. Then the Stars pulled away with 4 straight goals in the second half to remain top of the table.  Tyler Bjork scored a brace  for the Stars. The Seattle offense was supported by a second brace, from Miles Sanchez.

Seattle goals: Tyler Bjork (2), Miles Sanchez (2), Mason Bochner, Atty Taylor.

Yakima goals: William Pineda, Ramon Ayala, Alex Molchan.

Olympic Force 3-1 WPSS Shock

GIG HARBOR, WA— The Olympic Force (2-1-1) and WPSS Shock (2-1-0) have played some close matches over the years, including a draw, but Olympic had never beaten the Shock in EPLWA play – until Sunday night May 21 at Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor.

Joe Sammartino and Alejandro Hernandez scored goals back-to-back in the 21st and 23rd minutes as the Force came back from an early 1-0 deficit. Diego Aceves took a lovely strike late on to ensure Olympic’s win.

Oly Town FC 5-0 Spokane Shadow 2

OLYMPIA, WA— The Oly Town Artesians (2-1-1) scored their highest output of goals so far in their inaugural season as they continued the woes of winless Spokane Shadow 2 (0-4-0) on Sunday May 21 at The Evergreen State College. Read an Oly Town match report here.

KENT, WA— Seattle and Bellingham exchanged first-half goals as the Stars (3-1-1) improved their first place standing against the Hammers (2-2-1.) BUFC went ahead in the 15th minute on a Nick Cashmere goal. The Stars were level just 5 minutes later on a strike from UW Husky Andrew Conwell.
