The first and second place teams in the table provide the Players of the Week in the Evergreen Premier League for June 4, 2017. Bennett Bugbee (Olympic Force) and Pablo Gallo (Seattle Stars) had ‘complete’ games, excelling at their main mission but also crossing over to deliver at both ends of the pitch.

BENNETT BUGBEE (OFFENSE) – Olympic Force

bb2“I thought Bennett had a very good game,” says Force Head Coach Steve Cashmore. “He did a lot of work defensively to win balls for us in dangerous areas for us and keep us on the front foot. He has a knack for scoring goals and getting into good positions to do so and that’s exactly what he did to net what turned out to be the winner with a tidy finish.”

Bugbee also came through early for the Force, assisting on a 9th minute goal by Colin Ralston. Olympic is now 3-1-1 after five matches, by far the best start in the club’s EPLWA history.

The Pacific Lutheran Lute also gets praise from Force General Manager Micah McMonagle. “It’s been nice getting to see him play fully healthy.  Last year he was dealing with an ongoing knee issue and we saw some moments of what he was capable of but this year has been totally different,” Micah says.  “He has been healthy and firing on all cylinders since day one.  He has created goals, scored goals and worked his butt off on both sides of the ball.  Well earned.”

PABLO GALLO (DEFENSE) – Seattle Stars

arias_pablogallo_2015While Bugbee was winning praise for his help on defense, Seattle Stars defender Pablo Gallo was scoring his first goal in the EPLWA and also shutting down his opponent.

“Saturday’s game was a good showing of what I think the team can do,” Pablo says of the Stars’ 5-1 romp over the Spokane Shadow. “We got numbers forward  and we were able to break down a packed back line.”

Pablo (Florida Southern University) got the Stars rolling with their first goal of the night on an assist from Mason Bochner. Then he focused on his defensive chores. He likes how things are building for Seattle. “As the season progresses and we continue to build our team chemistry, we will be able to break down any team, as we have a lot of different tools to do so. Defensively we showed a really mature back line that wasn’t scared or uncomfortable when we were on the ball, and everyone really bought in to that aspect of the game.”

About the Players of the Week honors

The Evergreen Premier League  will be selecting an offensive and defensive Player of the Week each week during the 2017 season. The Players of the Week will be acknowledged with a pair of custom, unique socks featuring the EPLWA logo. The socks are from Rock’Em Apparel, the Official Provider of the weekly reward. The league worked with Rock’Em Apparel to finalize the look of the socks. The league logo is complemented by a rendering of George Washington in the State seal.
