The Evergreen Premier League today announces that Chase Reidt and Jacob Rhoads are the EPLWA Players of the Week for June 11, 2017. Chase and Jacob played leading roles for their clubs as the Spokane Shadow and Yakima United broke through into the win column last Saturday.
CHASE REIDT (OFFENSE) – Spokane Shadow
The Spokane Shadow were looking for a turnaround, and they found one in the goal by Chase Reidt that held up as the winner in the club’s 1-0 victory over Oly Town FC on Sunday June 11 at the Polo Grounds in Spokane.
The Shadow had much of the possession in the first half with several good looks on, but it was a quick series of passes up the middle in the 44th minute that led to the deciding goal. The club’s Spokane Sounders youth player Brayden Tucker, with a deft touch, delivered the ball to Chase Reidt, who beat a defender before slipping the ball past goalkeeper JJ Olson.
“Chase was phenomenal this weekend as a central midfielder and as a center forward, grabbing the game-winning goal against Oly Town,” says Shadow EPLWA Head Coach Mike Pellicio. “He was a constant threat in both games, popping up in dangerous areas and putting in a lot of work on both sides of the ball.”
“Chase’s technical speed in tight spaces, composure under pressure and positivity with his teammates make him an absolute pleasure to have in the team.”
JACOB RHOADS – (DEFENSE) – Yakima United
Jacob Rhoads is a veteran presence for the Hoppers. He hasn’t been in many matches this season but on Saturday he was front and center in the Yakima goal and made the plays needed to keep the team in the match against WPSS Shock.
Rhoads made numerous saves, including a penalty kick stop late in the match that preserved a 1-1 score line. Just two minutes later the Hoppers won it 2-1 when another veteran, Dennis Stevenson, headed home the winning goal.
“Jake played one of his best games he’s ever played for us Saturday,” says Hoppers Head Coach Hector Vega.” He kept the defense organized and made some big saves, including the penalty. That kept the score at 1-1 and allowed us to go on and win. Sometimes you need your keeper to come up big in those situations and Jake did that this weekend.”
Social media buzz after seeing the penalty kick save by Rhoads was that the goalkeeper jumped forward (encroached) on the play (see video above). The save stood as the referees made no call. Even with the video look at the PK save, it’s clear that Rhoads elevated his game and brought Yakima along with him (see videos below.) It was the Hoppers’ first win of the 2017 season.
About the Players of the Week honors
The Evergreen Premier League will be selecting an offensive and defensive Player of the Week each week during the 2017 season. The Players of the Week will be acknowledged with a pair of custom, unique socks featuring the EPLWA logo. The socks are from Rock’Em Apparel, the Official Provider of the weekly reward. The league worked with Rock’Em Apparel to finalize the look of the socks. The league logo is complemented by a rendering of George Washington in the State seal.
The phrase “Rock ‘Em” represents the willingness to achieve greatness; to go above and beyond limits,” says www.RockEmApparel.com.
Evergreen Premier League players will work to do just that for their clubs this season. The best of the best will have cool custom socks to show off around town for their efforts.
