Stars, Shock win; Hammers keep it friendly

Evergreen Premier League action over the June 17-18 weekend saw four matches played. The Hoppers of Yakima United played twice while Bellingham United hosted a friendly. Meanwhile contenders Seattle, WPSS and Vancouver notched wins.

Seattle Stars 6-1 Oly Town Artesians

KENT, WA— Tyler Bjork scored four goals as the first place Stars (6-1-1) romped over the Oly Town Artesians (2-4-1) on Saturday June 17 at French Field in Kent. Read the Artesians’ match report here. Bjork now has 11 goals on the season and  is threatening to break the league record of 14 – which he set last season with Seattle.

WPSS Shock 5-1 Yakima United

PUYALLUP—Washington Premier South Sound (4-3-0) avenged last week’s loss in Yakima with a blowout win on Saturday over the Hoppers (2-4-2) at WPFC Fields Complex in Puyallup. JJ Schmeck scored the opening goal and assisted on two others for the Shock, who led 3-0 at halftime.

Yakima United 4-0 Spokane Shadow

YAKIMA, WA— The Hoppers (2-4-2) were home on Sunday to host the Shadow (1-8-0) at Sozo Sportz Complex and they bounced back from Saturday’s 4-goal loss to post a 4-goal win over their traditional rivals. YUFC got off quickly with a team goal in the 3rd minute when Luis Martinez put home nicely passed goal. Just 4 minutes later it was 2-0 after Noe Meza drew a penalty kick and buried the chance afterwards. It was 3-0 before the break on a Alejandro Rodriguez rebound goal. Then Meza got a brace to complete the scoring in the 47th minute. With the loss the Spokane Shadow were mathematically eliminated from winning the EPLWA in 2017.

Vancouver Victory 3-1 Olympic Force

RIDGEFIELD, WA—Vancouver Victory (3-1-1) played just their 5th match of the season on Sunday night at Ridgefield Stadium. The defending EPLWA Champs went down 1-0 to the Olympic Force (3-2-2) before scoring three times to earn the win. Alex Bradbury put the Force up 1-0 in the 21st minute. Vancouver grabbed the lead back before halftime with goals from Nathaniel Cheney (35th minute) and Bobby Hutchin (45th.) Both of the goals were provided on assists from Nick Ballenger. The scoring was completed in the 66th minute when Vancouver got a goal from Javier Sanchez.

Bellingham United 5-0 San Antonio FC (Friendly)

BELLINGHAM, WA— Bellingham United (4-2-1 in league play) had the weekend off from EPLWA play but matched up against Everett side San Antonio FC on Sunday at Civic Stadium. It was a 5-0 win for the Hammers. Christian Caro got a hat trick and an assist for BUFC.
