BELLINGHAM, WA— The Evergreen Premier League (EPLWA) today announces that Richard Henderson of Bellingham United and Nathan Reitz of Seattle Stars are the EPLWA Players of the Week for July 30, 2017.
RICHARD HENDERSON (OFFENSE) – Bellingham United
Richard Henderson scored a hat trick in Bellingham United’s final match of the season on July 30th as the Hammers finished with 32 points – the highest total ever by a second place side in league history. Richard’s goals came on two converted penalty kicks and a strike from the run of play. The outburst pushed him into the lead for goals for the season in Bellingham with 8.
NATHAN REITZ (DEFENSE) – Seattle Stars
“It was a privilege for me to play with the Stars this year,” says defender Nathan Reitz.” He was steady in the back as Seattle shut out Vancouver to win the league on July 29.
“Everyone from top to bottom was committed and put in the work to get us to the top,” Reitz says. “It started with the coaches and management doing an excellent job of bringing together a really talented group of guys and setting clear expectations for us. The players all meshed well and that chemistry showed on the field. Once the platform was built for us our confidence grew and we went out and scored a lot of goals while coming up with some shutouts when we needed them most.”
Nathan played great ball in the win that sealed the season. “This last Saturday in Vancouver we went in knowing it was a must win game. We started off well and there was a chance or two back and forth but when Tyler (Bjork) and Alex (Castillo) punched their goals in late in the first half the momentum swung our way. Coming out after halftime our goal was to set the tone for the second half, we didn’t want to give an inch. The whole team did exactly that and as the half went on we caught a couple more goals. We played that last game with a bit of a different look at the back due to some absences and the guys who stepped in played flawlessly.”
About the Players of the Week honors
The Evergreen Premier League will be selecting an offensive and defensive Player of the Week each week during the 2017 season. The Players of the Week will be acknowledged with a pair of custom, unique socks featuring the EPLWA logo. The socks are from Rock’Em Apparel, the Official Provider of the weekly reward. The league worked with Rock’Em Apparel to finalize the look of the socks. The league logo is complemented by a rendering of George Washington in the State seal.
