EPLWA Players of Week 2: Lopez Wins in Debut & Escalante Shuts Out Seattle

Three EPLWA teams posted big road wins during week two, and league coaches and operators have voted for two players that led their teams to big wins as their Players Of The Week.

OFFENSIVE: Not a bad league debut for Yakima United’s Missael Lopez. Down 1-0 at the half, Lopez scored both the equalizer and what proved to be the game winner in the second half in the Hopper’s 4-1 victory over the Oly Town Artesians in Olympia on Saturday. The Walla Walla Community College product then followed that up by scoring a third goal over the weekend with the opening goal in a loss to Washington Premier on Sunday. With his three goals, he took over the league lead for goals scored.

DEFENSIVE: Allen Escalante’s performance in the Oly-Pen Force’s 3-0 win over the Seattle Stars at French Field in Kent had the Oly-Pen front office buzzing. “Nobody outworked or outplayed Allen,” said Micah McMonagle. “Playing defensive midfield for the entire 90 minutes, he was tireless. And his play alone changed the entire team tactics for the Stars.”

Other nominees:
Offensive: Jaisen Zurfluh (Oly-Pen), Micah Wenzel (WA Premier)
Defensive: Logan Jones (WA Premier), Mike Arguello (WA Premier)
