Week 5: Four Points For Hammers, Four Goals for Madsen

A four point weekend for Bellingham moves them into a commanding lead in the Cascade Conference, Brandon Madsen explodes for four goals, and Tyler Bjork adds to his career total. All this and more in the recaps of Week 5’s four games…


PacNW SC 3, Vancouver Victory 2

Tyler Bjork scored another goal, adding to his league record goal count, and PacNW SC continued their undefeated run to start the season with a 3-2 win at the Vancouver Victory. Radcliffe McDougald started the scoring, giving PacNW a 1-0 lead in the 46th but Vancouver answered and tied it up on an Austin Rios goal in the 60th minute. Bjork then gave PacNW a 2-1 lead finishing a pass from McDougald in the 77th and then Jasper Malamud scored what proved to be the game winner in the 83rd. Robert George got the Victory within a goal in the 89th but PacNW held on in stoppage time to pick up the win and move to 3-0-1 this season. Vancouver fell to 0-4-1.

Bellingham United 1, Seattle Stars 1

In a battle of first and second in the Cascade Conference, Bellingham United forced an own goal in the 68th minute to take a 1-0 lead before Marcus Machado tied the game, 1-1, in the 83rd. Both teams held serve for the final few minutes to each take a point at Orca Field at Whatcom Community College. The draw moved the Hammers to 3-0-2 and the Stars to 3-2-1.

Washington Premier 5, Tri-Cities Alliance 2

Last year’s Golden Boot winner, Brandon Madsen, had himself a day on Sunday afternoon at the Washington Premier Complex scoring four goals to lead WA Premier to a 5-2 win over the Tri-Cities Alliance. The Alliance struck first when Hector Magana lead in the 3rd minute. But it was all Madsen after that with three straight goals in the 14th, 38th and 40th. He added his fourth goal in the 64th to make it 5-1. Last year’s champion WA Premier moved to 2-2-0 this season, more than doubling their goal total for the season in one game, while Tri-Cities fell to 0-2-3.

Bellingham United 2, Oly Town Artesians 1

In a repeat of their first game in Bellingham, United scored a second half stoppage time goal to knock off the Oly Town Artesians 2-1 at Black Hills High School in Olympia. Just like in the first game, the two teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first half, but Manny Nicasio put Oly Town up 1-0 just two minutes into the second half. Bellingham equalized on a goal by Richard Henderson in the 69th and then they finally capitalized on a depleted Artesians defense when Eleazar Galvan streaked across the middle and wrapped a shot around Oly keeper JJ Olson for the game winner. Bellingham moved to 4-0-1 in the Cascade Conference, giving them a four point cushion over second placed Seattle. Oly Town fell to 1-4-0.
