EPLWA Players Of Week 10: Veterans Bjork and Wenzel Capture Awards

Washington Premier and PacNW SC finished the season strong, taking the top two spots in the Rainier Conference and outscored their opponents in week 10 by a combined 18-1. So it makes sense that the Evergreen Premier League’s coaches and operators voted to honor one player from each club with their Players Of The Week awards for the final week of the regular season.

OFFENSIVE: With a hat trick against Oly Town and another goal against the Spokane Shadow in week 10, the EPLWA’s all-time leading scorer ran away with the league’s Golden Boot award with 12 goals and increased his all-time total to 69 regular season and playoff goals split between Bellingham United, the Seattle Stars, and this year with the league’s newest team, PacNW SC. Bjork holds the single season goal scoring record with 14 goals in 2016, but the league played 14 regular season games with no playoffs then, so Bjork’s 12 goals in his team’s 10 games is his best rate yet. He will try to add to that total with a trip to his old stomping grounds in Bellingham on Saturday.

DEFENSIVE: Since losing 2-1 to the Oly-Pen Force in week three, Washington Premier have won seven straight games and have outscored their opponents 25-3 in the process, and a big part of that resurgence has been because of their captain Micah Wenzel. In their 6-0 week 10 win over the Vancouver Victory, Wenzel scored twice and played a physical game in midfield winning many challenges. The Bellarmine Prep grad has played in the EPLWA since day one first with South Sound FC and staying with the club as it transitioned to Washington Premier. Wenzel will look to lead Washington Premier to their second EPLWA title starting on Saturday with a rematch of last year’s final when the Seattle Stars come to town.

Other nominees:
Offensive: Mike Ramos (Spokane Shadow), Brandon Madsen (WA Premier)
Defensive: Kasey French (PacNW SC), Jose Marquez (Yakima United), Mike Arguello (WA Premier)
