Semifinals Recap: Bellingham and PacNW Advance To Finals

Bellingham United 1, Washington Premier 0

Despite playing on back-to-back days and despite being out shot in the contest, Uriel Herrera scored a goal three minutes into second half stoppage time and Bellingham United advanced to the Evergreen Premier League championship game for the second season in a row with a 1-0 win over Washington Premier. Hector Gutierrez made four saves and kept a clean sheet for the third time this season to keep Bellingham in the game through 90+ minutes. Brandon Limes nearly matched him and made three saves in goal for WA Premier before allowing the late goal to Herrera, a 70th minute sub for Bellingham.

The Hammers move on to the EPLWA championship game and will host the final next weekend. Washington Premier, the two-time defending EPLWA champion, sees their league season come to an end, but a trophy is still within their reach as they will host the Washington State Super Cup Final on Friday night at 7:00 PM.

GOALS: 90’+3 – Uriel Herrera – Bellingham United

PacNW 3, Tacoma Narrows 1

After 75 scoreless minutes of back-and-forth football, Tyler Bjork snapped a scoreless tie, and then three minutes later, Michael Rojas poked in what proved to be the game winning goal and PacNW held on, 3-1, to advance to their first Evergreen Premier League championship game. Bjork, the EPLWA’s all-time leading scorer, struck first to make it 1-0 in the 75th minute. Just minutes later, Rojas was the beneficiary of a rebound off of Narrows keeper Julian Tafolla and knocked it past the keeper to give PacNW a 2-0 lead. Bjork added his second goal of the game in the 85th to put them up 3-0. Neil Boyal scored an 89th minute goal and Narrows had a couple chances late to cut into the lead, but the PacNW defense held and finished off the 3-1 win.

PacNW, the #3 seed out of the North, pulled off their second upset of the weekend and will now face Bellingham United in the final. Bellingham’s only loss of the season came at the hands of PacNW. Tacoma Narrows’ season came to an end.
