From Australia and Auburn: Newton, Gonzalez set to help Seattle Stars shine in EPLWA

SeattleStarsFCLogo (1)KENT, WA— Seattle Stars FC are entering their 4th season in the Evergreen Premier League in 2017. They have never finished higher than 6th in the 8-club circuit but this year things are looking up for them. They have just finished a successful preseason that included winning the Rumble in the Rainforest last week in Port Angeles. The club is getting new kits to go with a new crest. Most importantly, there are new players who could well surprise opponents. Two who have already made the Stars more dangerous are attacking midfielder Brandon Gonzalez and attacking left back Zac Newton.

Brandon and Zac’s talents were on display last week in Port Angeles. Gonzalez scored twice, including the winding-through-traffic winner. Newton was busy running up and down the sidelines, stopping opponents and reversing play to attack for Seattle.

FINAL-Artesians_logoOLYMPIA, WA— Elite men’s soccer comes to Washington’s state capital beginning this weekend as the Oly Town Football Club Artesians begin life in Washington’s statewide Evergreen Premier League.

goalWA.nethas followed the path of soccer in Olympia over recent years. There was the attempt to get things going that was called Capital City FC. There was a history of competing regionally that was called Olympia FC Flyersback in the mid 1980’s. The Sounders U23’s have played the Timbers U23’s in an annual PDL match in Tumwater.

Now along come the Oly Town Artesians, who after 3 seasons of indoor play in the Western Indoor Soccer League are bringing outdoor football to their city. They’ve got local talent, a media-savvy general manager in Brandon Sparks, a dedicated owner in Tim Smith, and strong connections with The Evergreen State College.

Artesians Wrap Up Preseason With 2-2 Draw

SEATTLE, Wash. – Connor Desmond scored on a penalty kick in the first half and Jake Zimmerman added a goal in the second half for the Oly Town Artesians in a 2-2 draw with Seattle’s OSA FC in a preseason friendly on Sunday morning in West Seattle. The game was the final tune-up for the Artesians before kicking off the Evergreen Premier League season next Sunday against Yakima United.

The two teams played even ball for the first 35 minutes before Connor Desmond broke through on a run up the left side and was tripped up in the box to draw a whistle and a penalty kick. Desmond took the shot himself and beat the OSA FC keeper low and to the left to put Oly Town up…
