Wenatchee owns Central Washington for 2014 after 4-0 win at Yakima

YAKIMA, WA — Wenatchee United FC swept the two-match season series against their Central Washington rivals Yakima United FC with a 4-0 win at Marquette Stadium on Sunday June 15. Earlier in the season Wenatchee beat the Hoppers 3-1 at the Apple Bowl.

Wenatchee United shared this bus trip photo on social media as they headed south to Yakima.

The Capitals began their scoring in the 18th minute when a shot was directed back from Eduardo Perez to Matt Stefanko, who put WUFC up 1-0. It was Stefanko’s second goal of the year.

It was 2-0 in the 36th minute when Eleazar Galvan converted a penalty kick. Galvan has now scored three goals this season.

The match was practically put to bed before the half when Wenatchee scored a third. Galvan connected with Yonaton Rodriguez who buried a shot to match it 3-0 Wenatchee in the 42nd minute.

In the second half Yakima tried to rally but instead ended up on the wrong end of a few yellow cards, and with no goals.

Wenatchee did get a fourth. It came in the 65th minute when a corner kick was knocked in by Rodriguez, giving him a brace and three goals on the season, all in the last two matches.

Wenatchee United improves to 3-5-0 with 9 standings points. Yakima falls to 3-5-1 and 10 points.

Wenatchee United hosts WestSound FC on Saturday night June 21 at 6 PM at Wenatchee Valley CC. The Hoppers host Vancouver Victory also on Saturday June 21 at 6 PM, at Marquette Stadium.
