SPOKANE, WA— The Spokane Shadow returned to the place they called home in their earlier PDL days and scored five times to top the Olympic Force before 800 fans at Joe Albi Stadium.
Michael Malloy put the Shadow up early with a 6th minute strike. Then the Force came back in the 20th minute to make it 1-1 on a goal by Izzy De Luna. For a second straight match Izzy teamed up with his nephew Raul De Luna, who had the assist. The Shadow retook the advantage in the 43rd minute when Zach Hamer scored off on an assist from Eric Espinoza.
The second half began just like the first half ended. It was Hamer again with another assist to Espinoza to make in 3-1 Spokane in the 54th minute. The Shadow pulled away when then they go a goal from Jonny Cortez just 3 minutes later in the 57th to make it 4-1.
The clubs exchanged goals (Olympic – Valentyn Schymko – 64th, Spokane – Robert Esquivel – 87th) for the 5-2 final result.
The Shadow (4-1-1, 13 points) are keeping the heat on first-place Vancouver. Meanwhile the Force (1-4-1, 4 points) have dropped behind Wenatchee in the table.
The Shadow have no time to rest as they host Wenatchee on Sunday June 5 at 4 PM at Spokane Falls.
